DirectX error -- 09-27-2011, 08:12 PM

...I get "Failed creating D3D device of at least version 10.0 on adapter "NVIDIA GeForce 7950GT" with driver 25838."
says this is typically caused by not having the minimum required DirectX support in the GPU. Even though my dxdiag says I'm running DirectX 11? WTF?

Could I see a screen shot of the error please? You can PM me a photobucket link if you need to.
Thanks! I see that there is an attachment linked on this thread, but I have a feeling that since I'm new to BBF and to the forums here I don't have adequate permissions to view it. I'm sorry, I'm still unable to help without it :/ |

Thanks Crimson Ghost! Give me just a little time to look into this. I'm about to sit down and eat dinner, but from first glance it appears that you have an outdated card to run this game. I'm not 100% sure yet, but I'll get you an answer shortly! Thanks!
Thanks for waiting Crimson Ghost. It appears that your problem lies with your GeForce 7950 GT video card. This card does not support the version of DirectX that is required for Battlefield 3. It looks like the lowest available card that BF3 will accept is a GeForce GTS 250 which is out of stock due to being so old. The best recommendation that I can make is to purchase an EVGA GeForce GTX 460. It's not top of the line, but for it's class and the price it can't be beat by many. It's running on newegg for $199. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6814130568 You could also drop quality a little bit and pick up an EVGA GeForce GTS 450. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6814130573 for fewer pesos at $127. Both of these cards are compatible with DirectX 11 which is a minimum requirement set forth by EA. The makers of Battlefield 3 are hoping to bring some things back to FPS games that have been lost for a while, hence the strict requirements. It will reintroduce several elements absent from the Bad Company games, including fighter jets, the prone position and 64-player battles on PC. Sorry I didn't have better news! Good luck out there! |

The 590 is out now, so I don't see why you couldn't find a 560 for a good price. Good luck!

I got the 560Ti from Best Buy (don't laugh...the Nvidia brand Nvidia 560Ti is pretty darn awesome for a retail card).

Try installing DirectX 10 first.
Windoes keeps track of which version(s) you have installed and I have gotten that error for DirectX 9.0c when I had 10 installed. Each copy can be installed without disrupting the current version. Give that a shot and then if it doesn't work I would look into a new card. BTW - my GTS 250 ran the alpha perfectly and it's a Dx 10 card. Not having an 11 card simply means that some of the affects won't be available to you, but you may still be able to run it.
