With all the performance issues with this game I don't know if I'd want steam running at the same time.

What performance issues?

I haven't had a single performance issues and I have 2 monitors, tons of open windows in the background, and I haven't done a good cleaning in my registry in while. My computer is about as un-optimized as you can get with files thrown everywhere yet I haven't had a single performance issue. I also don't have top of the line components. I have a tri-core AMD that is atleast 3 years ago, a mid level gaming vid card, and 8G memory.

If you are having performance issues I'd suggest making sure your computer is in performance mode rather then graphics mode. (This turns off all the eye candy to make it faster). Also make sure you don't have anything major running at the same time. (or have viruses on your system).

Running steam in the background shouldn't have an affect on your performance at all.

There's actually been quite a few graphical and gameplay issues since the release, but it's more a hardware/driver issue. I personally play this game on two different systems, one being a desktop and the other my laptop, both have at one time expeirnced some crazy graphical issues. I have AMD/ATI graphics cards in both and I'm beginning to think that maybe that's where the issue lies with me. I have the newest and greastest cards in both (prepped for htis game for months lol) from AMD/ATI and I personally think it's a driver issue that just hasn't been addressed yet.

My desktop is OLD - E6850 CPU, 4GB of RAM, GX260 card (though I do have a 512GB SSD)..

It runs SWTOR "okay" in windowed mode at 1920x1080, but I've definitely stripped down a lot of the graphic options to the basics (including shadows = off). Still I see a lot of graphical blips and other issues making me feel that the game just really isn't working as smoothly as it should be.

Still, if you want the steam overlays - that's cool.. =)

LOL.. yeah, I use two monitors so any messengers or other programs I leave up on one of them and the game on the other.. as for screenshots.. well.. there is the print-screen button in game which saves to your documents folder (Documents\Star Wars The Old Republic\Screenshots)
