these days I don't read THG that often anymore, but they have great GPU and CPU comparison charts.

here's their CPU summary:
<a class="postlink" href="www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gam">www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gam ... ,2772.html

for some CPU performance reviews check this (check the earlier pages for the full system setups):
<a class="postlink" href="www.anandtech.com/show/3937/amds">www.anandtech.com/show/3937/amds ... formance/5
and a handy littly benchmark tool:
<a class="postlink" href="www.anandtech.com/bench/CPU/2">www.anandtech.com/bench/CPU/2

<a class="postlink" href="www.anandtech.com/show/3937/amds">www.anandtech.com/show/3937/amds ... erformance

now, if you have a little time, wait for this one to come out - even if you don't get any of these, it should push the other CPU prices down...
<a class="postlink" href="www.anandtech.com/show/3871/the-">www.anandtech.com/show/3871/the- ... s-in-a-row

for SSD - maybe wait tillt his one is back in - quite a few more reviews than the one you listed with an overal 5 egg rating. - if you can I would shoot for an 80Gig SSD though. that lets you put the OS and a few games onto it (fast loading OS and fast loading maps in games...)

Alright so I decided to go with the Storm Scout case for now but I might find something cheaper yet still we will see.

But since I dropped the price in that I can get a different SSD and Dark forget the 80 how about a 90?

sure, migth as well.

or go a bit up and get the 120G....ah what the ehck, jsut go for the 160G :-p
don't know how the quality of this one is as OZC has other 120G drives that are more...
<a class="postlink" href="www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a">www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820227543

either way should be fine

there is alos a interesting bundle, but it seems a little on the pricey side to me:
<a class="postlink" href="www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDeal">www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDeal ... mbo.540792
got the same tower/cpu you had in the intial post, but a different mobo. I think anythign over $100 for a case is a bit steep, but then I spend 150 on my PSU 2 years ago...and only 40 or so on the case....

few more tips - for deals also watch this:
<a class="postlink" href="hardforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=28">hardforum.com/forumdisplay.php?f=28
--e.g. killer deal on a 90G SSD: <a class="postlink" href="hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1561856">hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1561856

and keep in mind, black friday is coming, there shoudl be some deals coming then as well, but know the retail price before as well as I see more and more stores stating sales prices with suddenly higher "original" price and the "sale" price just coming back down to the original pricing...

Chaser, DO NOT get only an SSD. Once an SSD is over half full it loses TRIM support and slows down.

Get a 40-60GB SSD for just your operating system and often used programs (ie web browser and email) and then a 500GB Spinpoint F3 for storage.

Also, I highly recommend not buying a 5870, the 6870 performs similarly and it's cheaper.

yes, agree, definitely toss in a 500G or 1T HDD. theya re cheap these days, see what pops up on sale.

graphics, seems like the ATI 6850 and Nvidia 260 1G are about equal, get whatever you can get the best price on. I thinkt he 270 is a bit on the hot side (if I remeber correctly), so I woudl stick with the 260 1G version. personally I like the EVGA versions. the 5870 seems pretty good from a performacne side as well...

<a class="postlink" href="www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gam">www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gam ... 782-4.html

on teh cpu side i woudl go with the 950 - maybe a bit overkill today, but in 2 years it shoudl still give a good amount a performance.

I got a Q9450 at home in my system that I build about 2 years back and it's till running fine and plenty fast. migth think about upgrading from the 8800 GTS, but will probably wait another 6-12 months as rigth now I can play anything still plenty fast (or maybe pick up a used 8800 GTS off ebay....can't really get them new anymore) and SLI both cards...
if you build something new, don't do too many compromises as it will be much more to upgrade in a year than spending the extra 100 bucks right now as you often will need to change more than just the one part you want to change...

Did you mean nVidia 460/470? Yes, the 470 and 480 are power hungry and run hot, but they're still great cards. Currently the best price/performance cards are the 470, 460, 6850 and 6870... the 580 is stupidly overpriced and 5870 prices are way too high so long after release.

EVGA are the best for nVidia cards, and Asus or Sapphire for ATi cards, yes you are correct.

The only Phenom II x4 BE chip worth buying is the 955, all other Black Edition Phenom II Quads are exactly the same chip clocked higher... so it's better to get the 955 for cheaper and just overclock it yourself.

In a brand new build, you should always allow enough PSU power for XFire or SLI, and NEVER EVER buy two cards right off the bat. If you buy one, when it starts to slow you can just pick up another for cheap and put them in SLI/XFire. If you buy two, when they start to slow you have to sell two cards AND buy a new one, it's a lot more difficult.

Wow guys I was starting to think I knew what I was talking about but now I’m super lost haha.

I’m pretty sure I am going to go AMD I like the inlets and have always had inlets but the MOBO I like has a 1366 socket and the cheapest CPU with that socket is 230 bucks.

I know black Friday is coming up but this is going to have to wait until January most likely but I do want to get the case before too long so I can customize it the way I want (already have some paint schemes figured out).

I haven’t even told the fiancée yet but I have decided that ill prob take 10% of my checks out to save up that’s like 2-300 a month I can save. I might also try and get the Newegg card.

OK so I like the Storm Scout case it can hold a ATX or ATX mini MOBO.

I really wish I could just say screw it and buy the best of the best right now but that’s way too much for me. I want to someday go dual vid cards and much much more but now I’m sort of going basic which means I may just have the SSD for start then buy either another SSD or an HDD I’m not sure we will see.

I really do need links because really I have no clue what yall are talking about half the time.

If you don't have available money for buying the best, don't buy an SSD... HDD's are much better space for the money atm, and trust me, games will fill your HDD up quickly.

As I said, if an SSD gets more than half full it'll slow down a lot, you're better off going with a large mechanical drive now and buying an SSD later for your operating system.
