Fail. And it's right about the fact that gamers actually encourage the continuation of this stuff. Gaming is gonna get worse and worse as companies discover how far they can push before the dam breaks. I think they're going to get a lot of pushing - and a truckload of money - before all those who complain actually do any boycotting.

Unfortunately, EA is a "monopolized" mogul. First, they started buying up exclusive right deals left and right, (Madden anyone?) and now they are jumping rear first into the DLC pool with the rest of the sharks.

It's because of Madden that I became semi-anti-EA. Now I have a further, growing hatred for the BS tactics they are using to further monpolize our money.

People have done everything to un-monopolize the NFL license and EA still says "Screw you! We got our money, and yours too!". Problem is, the government doesn't care about video games and like alot of our wives, would do away with it all together if they could. Unlike when they went after Microsoft for teh exact same thing, monopoly.

*Sigh*

Too bad you can't have your voice heard when it matters the most.

WEll EA already started this Monopoly DLC tatic BF3 is not the first game they are tring this on. If those of you that have BF Bad Company 2 remember when the BFBC2 Veitnam map pack and expansion came out you had to pay for it and still do. I dont know about any other EA games as far as them trying this. The problem istn to mcuh with the PC side of the gaming industry. This money hungry hell bent company probably started this with the XBOX and PS3 games. once they noticed that parents will give their kids money for just about anything so their kids shut up for a day, the game companies probably began to think

" HEY wait a minute, we are retartds." "here we have this whole PC side of the industry that we forgot about and have been scewing over for years." "Why dont we just do they same thing as we are for Consoles." "lets make a half a game and sell it for top dollar, then after 3 months we will release a map pack or some expansion and charge the PC gamers for it." " then while we are at it we can break parts of the game and then release an update for it and charge them for that." "The best part apart this is some people we be to stupid and go and spend their money on the game and not care what we do to the game."

Dam i think i just described the intire thought process for the COD designers and it probably took them a few years to come up with that. and now look EA is following along.

Everyone B****ed about the COD games because of this and now they are b****ing about EA doing this . its like that person said on that webpage. These companies will do this and continue to do this until the Gaming Community stops playing, buying, and wasting money on the games for their so called updates.

Now as some of you know i have purchased every DLC release for Black OPS and yes i may b***h about the game and sometimes spending the money for it, but its becasue i choose to and i dont mind. However i am one of those people who said that "I wont and will never buy COD MW2 because of the NON - Dedicated servers" and i still have yet to buy itand i wont buy it. and if COD MW3 had non - dedicated servers i wont buy it either and this goes for any BF game that i may have wanted to buy.

Hmm, I am a bit biased but I just want to point out that the days of developing a game for a few million have long since gone. To develop a game for modern platforms is anywhere from 10-15 mill on the low end all the way up to 100 or so a the top.

blogs.forbes.com/insertcoin/2011 ... l-of-duty/

Then when you add in the bill for marketing (overhead too), check out the above, EA is looking to spend a 100 mill or so. I hate to tell you, but it costs a lot to make a video game these days. The devs and publishers are taking substantial risks and when done right it pays itself back but the consumer will need to pony up. If you take 100 mill dev cost that is about 5 mill units to cover the dev cost alone. You can do the math for 50 mil and so on if you want.

It costs to make the games we love, it costs to create the content, it just costs lots of money to make modern games and that is just the fact. I am a frustrated as the next, I do agree that withholding essential items and charging for them may not be the best way to do this. I think the issue is the price point of the games, some are not worth $20 and some maybe worth $120 but no one wants to move off the $60 price point.

Just sayin'...

I tried to boycott MW2, but didn't really have a following backing me in BBF. Eventually, I jumped off the cliff.....

BF3....how could I not get it? It at least has dedicated servers!

Might have to make sure I pre-order though. ;)

It pisses me off in principal but I have come to terms what is the price of games these days. I was going to pre order the game anyway so this is mute for me anyway.

What it means to me is that I will buy less games and play the ones I have longer. Hey I am still playing COD 4 and BF1942.

I do not see why people boycott games for DLC. If there is a greedy company it is activision not EA. Dakota, BC2 vietnam is not just a few maps, its a complete redesign. 15 bucks for that is reasonable. 15 bucks for call of duty map packs isn't. I am not going to boycott BF3. The game is going to be sick, and people shouldn't worry about the DLC. EA has spent tons of time and money on BC3, a small map pack that you get for free for preordering isn't too bad. companies have been doing this for a while, but this is the one people care about?

I honestly dont get it, the game is gonna be sweet and people are just pissed cuz they are used to everything being free.

Also Dak, there are dedicated servers for BF3.

Plus everyone who is going to boycott is going to buy it anyway, they wont be able to help themselves.

I miss the days when the community made (and were allowed to make) mods and maps for games they liked.
I still really don't like paying for something that I've already bought.

Exactly! That's how it should be. The downloadable content I know refers to the downloads i can find from the community. All else should just be updated in.
