Long Time Coming But a New PC?? For [BBF]DrDeath was created by [BBF]DrDeath

[size=xx-large]Help [BBF]DrDeath[/size]

Hey everyone here at My 2nd home BBF. Yes it says it right a new computer for [BBF]DrDeath and yes as many of you have known I have wanted one for a long time now.

So here goes:

In BBF we have very very smart people way smarter than me and I am asking you all what kind of pc I should get. I have never built one before from start to finish, but I have replaced many parts on my now 7 year old dell. I have replaced the hard drive, power supply, memory, reformatted many times, and more, so I am fairly confident that I can do this and be ok with it. I am a little concerned about the bios and things like that which are already set if you get it from dell. But outside of all that I think I will be ok.

I have been talking with chaser and paco about this over the last few weeks and have talked with many other over the years. So I think I am ready to do this and my wife has already told me if I screw this up I will be a real DrDeath (beside the doctor part) so I will be dead.
So with that all said I am coming to my BBF family to help me out.
This is what I am using now and you make think it is funny or you might be in disbelief either way here it is:

Operating System: Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 3
System Manufacturer: Dell Computer Corporation
System Model: Dimension 4600
BIOS: Default System BIOS
Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz
Memory: 2688MB RAM
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200
Manufacturer: NVIDIA
Chip type: GeForce FX 5200
DAC type: Integrated RAMDAC
Display Memory: 128.0 MB
So as you can see it is not good, But moving on now I hope.

I want if it can be done:
64 bit
Good Processor (AMD or Intel)
Good motherboard that will hold at least 32g memory
Good video card
Good Key board and mouse
Sound card
Basically everything for a computer to work well, I do not care if it is new egg, tiger direct, or wherever.
I know I can spend up to 2000 or 3000 or more but I want something that is under 1000 if I can that I can upgrade later if need with out to much work. I do not have windows 7 so that will need to be on that too.
I also will need step by step if I can directions on how this will go down.

So with all this and the very very smart BBF family member that we have I was hope that you all could come together and help me out here and what I should get.

This is what chaser has come up with so far and nothing is set into stone yet
secure.newegg.com/WishList/Tempo ... hList.aspx
so talk about it here and see what is best for the drdeath.

1. are you building a new rig?
2. what are you planning to use the new rig for? games? work? photoshop? internet browsing?
3. if you play games what kind of games? what titles? give me at least three please
4. do you leave lots of programs running at the same time? are you a person who tends to not close programs?
5. silent? or performance?
6. are you planning to overclock ?
7. why would you need 32g of ram??????????

cpu: dual, quad, more ? overclock ?
mb: 155? 1366? 2011 socket? usb 3.0? sata 6g/s? atx? matx?
gpu: nvidia? ati? xfire? sli? dual monitor or more ?
ram: 1333? 1600 or above? timings?
psu: 750w? 850w? or above? modular?
case: silent? performance? looks? windows?
cooling: after market cpu cooler? gpu cooler?

if you can answer above questions it will be easier for me to help you out in detail

general suggestion for any new build (after you answer some of my questions i will help you in details)

CPU: quad - not many programs utilize beyond 4 cores, intel over amd.

MB: 1155 sockets - had many different ones and if you are not doing serious computing, 1155 socket with z68 or p67 would be more than enough.

GPU: AMD 6000 series - i would stick with AMD ATI at this point, they just launched 7000 series and 6000 series are cheaper and should make most of people happy with how they perfome. but really need to know what you play

RAM: 8gs of DDR3 1600 with timing of 9-9-9-24 - 1600 speed is stable and also Ram you cant tell too much difference anyways if you dont overclock CPU and Ram. Unless person is doing Constant video editing and heavy photoshop work and leaving 20 programs running all the time. 8g of rams should be more than enough for gaming and general uses. if you really need head room 16 is the maximum i would go for.

PSU: 850w - most of the power hungry cards in sli or xfire will only need 850w. so 850w would be almost the maximum you would need if you are not going overclock on everything. **** people try to save money on PSU (BAD IDEA!)
PSU would be one of the most important part of any computer build! it literally juices every part!

1. Yes

2. All four but my wife does more with photoshop then I do but if I can play any game it should be fine for what she does.

3. Right now the only game I could even think about playing is minecraft which I love but I want to be able to play any game that comes out over the next few years without having to do anything. Which I know there is no way to know what is coming out but I would like to be able to play it without doing a lot.

4. About the only things that ran at the same time would be a game and TS. I might have a few internet windows open at the same time or my wife might be editing pictures and a few different pictures open at the same time.

5. Not sure what you are asking here and if you are asking how load a pc is I do not want to have to cut the TV to hear it if they are both on.

6. I do not think I would ever need to overclock but you would have to tell me on that one. I do not know a lot about that but what chaser told me the other day.

7. I am planning for the future as far as upgrades.

If I had budget of $1000 for a system, This is something i would love to go for.

- many games and programs just started to utillize Quad Cores, so you should be safe for a long time.
- K series is overclocking CPU, real easy to do. Even some retailers started to sell this overclocked at 4.2ghz. That's how safe and easy this overclocking is.
- Motherboard has Easy overclocking function, so you don't have to know how to overclock! to get the result.
- both PSU and Motherboard supports SLI so you can just drop another GTX 560 TI later on, if you want more performance.
- GTX 560 TI is most bang for the buck in middle class GPUs. You can pretty much run any game. EVGA has amazing warrenty! Also you have head room for overclocking the GPU as well.
- Corsair Rams are known for stable overclock on CPU.
- Corsair HX 750 will supply clean stable power. clean stable power must be there for overclocking and so on... modular so easy to manage cables as well. Single rail so you dont have to worry about running too many on one rail.
- 750w is good for GTX 560 TI in sli with both CPU GPU overclock.
- Corsair SSD, single most important upgrade for everyone, SSD will make your life much better! just use as OS drive.
- Corsair H60 cooler is a liquid cooler. it's closed loop and no worries for changing liquid and the leaks. Treat them like Air coolers. After market cooler is real important for Overclocking CPU.
- Corsair 300R is great case, lots of room for bunch of stuff, good air flow, nice build quality.

After Mail in Rebate This system is at $1,000
Something you wanted.

Let me know anytime if you need more help

I like Sleep's system, I'd also add that this is a horrible time to purchase normal mechanical hard drives - the prices are still bloated due to the impact of the disasters last year ($150 for something that should be < $100). SSDs will generally wet yourself and you shouldn't have to spend more than ~$1000 to get something really impressive.

I would help with Ideas but I just walked in to best buy and said I want a Good gaming computer. I have no idea what is what. But the Geek guy did give it a hug and said he wants my computer when I took it in because I did not know what I was doing. So it must be OK, Would be cool to stick all the part together and say I made this. Good luck.

Don't mistake Best Buy Geek Squad folks for knowledgeable people... they're focused on selling you software you don't need and wiping out your system and reinstalling Windows for $300. =)

Had to take a look at the latest and greatest since you've been asking on Teamspeak and see what I could drool over. I'd recommend the system I have now if they still sold some of it....but can't easily find the mobo and CPU anymore. :(

I see Sleep found some similar items to what I had found. He's into the solid state drives, so you might take his advice on the HDD. I'm still using old mechanical sata drives (two of them are old drives I already had) and just make sure I do backups. I'm not really sure if the speed will help a ton with gaming, especially if you're mainly going to play minecraft.

If you do decide to buy a system, let us review all the components before you buy. I can't guarantee these recommendations are perfect, but I think everything is compatible.

DVD Burner - www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6827135204

Case - www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6811147023

I've set up two systems with this case and it's great for the price

EVGA GTX 560 Ti - www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6814130604

PSU - www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6817182032

You might be able to find a better one...I look for tons of reviews on these and avoid high priced 'fancy' PSU's. This will probably work for what you need without overclocking and only one video card.

RAM - www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6820231311

You want 16GB that you'll probably never need? That's what I did with 2 of these sets. lol There is probably some faster RAM you can get, but I know these run well with my system and reviews are great.

Motherboard - www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813121533

Yeah...Intel brand...not really many good boards on Newegg for this Intel CPU socket, but this one is probably a solid board.

Intel Core i5 2500K Sandy Bridge - www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6819115072

Will kick AMD's butt with this one!

Windows 7 Home Premium - www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6832116986

I don't think you'll need more than the home edition for what you do

Hard Drive - www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6822136073

Again...take Sleep's advice and just get a SSD...but you can go with something like this, or cheaper. You can add more drives later, or do both a solid state and mechanical drive.

$1,099.90 + $17.52 shipping - $15.00 mail in rebate = 1102.42

You probably only need 8GB RAM and wouldn't even use it. I came close when rendering all those minecraft maps at once, but that's kind of an extreme. lol You will be fine with basic video editing, gaming, etc. with 8GB. I went with 16GB just because I also want to run virtual machines sometimes. So, take $44 off for that.

You could go with a cheap AMD setup still while there are still some AMD Phenom II quad cores for sale. Intel seems to really be pulling away, but something like the AMD 975BE might work ok while saving some money. That would be about $74 cheaper and if there are any decent motherboards left for AM3 you might save another $100 or so.
