Video Cards-- was created by [BBF]Smiles

Okay so I'm trying to decide what graphics card to buy. ATI Radeon HD video card or nVidia GeForce?

Any other suggestions? Those are just the options in brands on the site I'm getting my new pc built from.. Should I buy the video with the pc? Or buy the pc, then the video card separate?

Thanks for any advice!

I recently just upgraded from dual 5770's to a single 6950.

The increase is HUGE

I went with the two gigabyte version, I also am CHEAP as heck. So i looked for something on sale yet great performance. The card below was on for 219, that worked for me!

I'm a big fan of NVIDIA. Solid hardware and drivers. If I were to get a video card right now I'd get either a gtx 580 or 570 depending on how much I could spend.

nVidia :: Power-eating, but drivers that are problematic but updated frequently to adjust to problems with a number of games.
ATI :: Power-friendly, but drivers are very slow in release and often problematic.

Pick your poison.

ATI cards have the best hardware by far but all the software issues to me just isnt worth it. I haven't had a major software issue with NVIDIA for as long as I've been using them.

Hmmm what so what is really good right now but decent in price and doesn't have a lot of problems.. I have a NVIDIA geforce right now on my shitty computer and it was good for a while until about 4 months ago when I started to lag a lot.. Maybe that's just my shitty computer though lol.

So yeah, what else is out there? If I were to buy it separate..

One of the big problems with video cards is that the fans they have on them are really kinda crappy as far as quality goes - and they collect a lot of dust. People often open up their computer and vacuum/blast the dust out of them, but the videocard goes overlooked.

Might not hurt to hit that thing with some compressed air.. =)

Yeah I used to clean my computers on regular basis until my pc went to shit haha. So you're saying, whatever I buy, if i clean it often enough as well as the tower.. I won't have any real problems?

Well, there's a number of reasons computers slow down - in fact, regular use of the system.. windows kinda makes a bit of a mess of itself (temp files, updates, hard drive defragmentation, etc).

Physical issues - well heat is the main enemy. Dust in a machine impacts proper airflow, increases heat and can actually impact overall performance of the system accordingly (kinda like a car's engine not getting oiled properly, etc).

Now I'll agree it's annoying to reinstall windows every year or so.. and it's equally annoying to go through your computer, take it apart, de-dust it all and put it back together again.. but these little adventures do help a system run better.
