That would work for the 5% of sane women out there but for the rest of women who are psychotic, when asked that question, say something like "oh I don't want anything" when in fact they do want something.

He's right. We can only get a straight answer like that if the woman asked is rather tomboy-ish or you're extremely lucky and hit that 5% like Shahal said.. No offense but it's true. My girl is in that 5% lol but anyways... NOW, something that shows not only did you NOT forget the date but show her you remember things said/done that brought you together is a great start. Dinner at a place she's wanted to go is nice too. If you've paid attention over 2 years you'd know some things she'd like. Whether it's hand made, kind of different/exotic or w/e you'll know what she's into gift wise. Remember, it's a celebration of both of you together. No doubt she might have plans and might even be relieved if you were to say something along the lines of 'Our anniversary is coming up and I've been really thinking about what we could do together. I'm interested in getting away for a while. Hey what was the name of that restaurant you wanted to try??? Maybe we can just plan a day of 'US'. If you want to 'share' the moment of creating a truly memorable anniversary, this, believe it or not, works very well.

You could always be aggressive and not care if she has plans or w/e and just do what I did once... Dress to the 9's (yes, wore my dark gray suit and black shirt/shoes) and be sure she's 'warned' to dress up, take her to perhaps a few places such as a cafe to start the day, random cool shops, share singular orders of w/e you can share and taste together while you tour that area (i'm lucky with Pikes Place Market) then hit that awesome restaurant on the water for sunset dinner and (i asked what she wanted and ordered for US) so while she's distracted with 'Honey, here, decide what's for dessert' slip a silver bracelet accented with a stone you know she likes, into the waiters hand and have him put it into a filled champagne glass when bringing said dessert. Believe it or not this day only cost 300 bucks and she still blushes, talking about it to her friends years later... BTW if you both agree to not do gifts (hey, these days money is tight everywhere) STILL DO FLOWERS or something small somehow!

Anyway you can always step up and hook her up with 'Day at the spa/salon' if that's her thing. There's actually NICE places that you both can go to if you like any relaxing stuff like that. Several resorts here have a hot tub in the room and some come with hot rock/massage! There are inexpensive places to stay that let you both get 'away' from home stuff for a day or a weekend.

Me and my wife made a point of not knowing what our wedding date is so we dont have to go through this each year.. Seems to work for us.
