Okay okay okay okay

so I was playing around with my computer today and I tried removing an old printer driver... WHEN I DISCOVERED MY LAPTOP CAN HAVE DUAL MONITORS!!!

So, when my mom gets a new TV, I'm going to hook up my HP Pavilion g6 via the VGA cable to my monitor capable TV... so I'm gonna have a 36 inch tv as a monitor... HIP HIP HURRAH!!!

As long as a laptop has a display port of any kind on it, it should be able to duplicate/Extend, VGA, DVI, HDMI, Mini-HDMI, DisplayPort, any of it would do!

Dual monitors increases productivity! But gaming on the big monitor, you might lose FPS, depending on the resolution you play on, on said TV! Enjoy, dual is something I can't live without anymore

Yeah, I have a VGA port, and some form of HDMI port too... Which one would be better to use? I'm guessing HDMI

Doesn't really make a difference, it might be a mini-HDMI port, you won't get THAT much of a difference to make it worth spending extra money on, if you've already got a VGA cable might as well use it.

Okay, I have a few questions for the tech-savvy members about dual screens. I numbered each question I have, so please, when answering, number each answer for the question (1-4 please).

Computer info:
Computer: HP Pavilion g6 Notebook with Windows 8 (purchased April of 2013)
Processor: AMD A4-4300M APU with Radeon HD Graphics 2.50GHz
Ram: 4.00 GB (3.47 useable)
System type: 64-bit OS, x64-based processor
(Note: I can add more info as needed as long as you tell me where to find it)

Questions:
-1) I have either a 30-something or a 40-something inch TV, what is the best resolution for a screen of that size with my specs? I would like to play video games on it, but I always chose the lowest setting to insure speed, I'm not that fancy, I don't really care too much about graphics

-2) I want to have my second monitor above my laptop, how do I change the format from being horizontal to vertical?

-3A) I have not bought any cables yet. Which is better? HDMI or VGA, because my laptop has both. I would prefer if I did not have to run a sound cable from my laptop's headphone jack to my TV, but I want something fast enough to play something like War Thunder on the lowest setting without lagging too badly. Speed over convenience.

-3B) If "3A" is HDMI, Does this laptop have Mini or regular HDMI... Or better yet, can someone tell me the difference between the two and can someone suggest a decent cable $20 or under (brand and cable name please) where I can buy at an electronics store like Nebraska Furniture Mart or Best Buy?

-3C) If "3A" is VGA, what is the best bang for my buck at $20 or under (Brand and cable name please)?

-4) Can I set my computer to automatically split screen when I plug in the cable? I do not want to have to go through the (not really annoying or hassling) inconvenience of telling my computer to extend screens?

1) Use the same resolution as your laptop and the performance won't change. You'd have to play with it a bit to see what resolution you can get up to before it gets choppy.

2)Widows Display settings, you can set it all, just click and drag the 2 positions of your monitors in real life, and it will extend accordingly.

3) HDMI, or VGA, it doesn't matter, whatever is cheaper at your local store, brand doesn't matter either, just make sure it's long enough. The sound will automatically play through your laptop for anything on either display.

4) You might have to change a few settings to get it all 100% the way you want it, but it's all in the control panel's Display settings, it's not hard.
As you can probably guess, mini HDMI is on the left, and HDMI is on the right.
