WoodysGamertag on youtube was swatted one time because someone reported that he killed one of his family members, then held the rest hostage. He saw movement outside his house one evening, and walked out his front door, armed. Luckily he wasn't hurt during the process, but this is a serious matter.

Another thing. I understand how calling in a false report is wrong, and there should be punishment, but prisons are for people who murder, rape, molest, and rob innocent people. A person who calls a fake report on someone isn't one of those people, he hasn't killed anyone, he hasn't raped anyone. There's this hacker I know who was big into hacking into you tube and twitter accounts. His punishment was not jail, but the inability to have internet for 5 years. That should be the punishment (if true) to this kid. So Lysenko, think about it this way. Jail is for people who cause extreme harm to someone. Calling a swat team to someone's house, isn't extreme harm, but a horrible prank that should be punished.

But Detro it says the guys dad was seriously injured. That is a serious thing.

Except for example the story i linked which says the father of the gamer was shot during the raid. What if the LEO's shot and killed an innocent civilian while raiding a house?

Also think of the money spent for one call.

Ambulance rides cost just over $1,000 depending on miles and the service provided.
Air-Ambulance (Helicopter) cost between $12,000 and $25,000
S.W.A.T. team costs on average $12,000 or $2,500 to $4,500 per hours
9-1-1 police calls cost $80.00 to $600 per call

So on just one Swatting call would cost
9-1-1 Call $200 (just an example)
Ambulance $1,000 (usualey are called when S.W.A.T. is dispatched)
S.W.A.T $12.000
Total = $13,200

Thats not considering the cost to fill out reports, news and press, property damage, and on and on and on. If a helicopter is dispatched that's at least another $12,000.

Not saying that wasting $25,000 is worthy of being sentenced for "25-Live" (1 year per $1,000) however it is a great deal of waste and can wind you up an a great deal of trouble.

Its silly to get angry over a game and do such things to another.

I have given my address, phone number, and much more out to clan members and a few have offered to have a pizza delivered and so on and so fourth. I always decline expecting the police or some circus freak to show up instead. I know if i was "Swatted" i would do anything within my power to find out who did it and why as well as having them put to justice whatever the judge might seem fit for the crime.

Then give them a 25 thousand dollar fine. But you don't throw people into jail who are not a "harm" to the community. Yes it may be a waste of money and man-power, but if nobody got hurt, why would you waste even more money on throwing this kid in jail, feeding him, clothing him, medical treatments, etc. When he could serve out his punishment in community service?

It makes no sense to me that a kid would be thrown in jail, over what was suppose to be a prank. Now if this story was true, and someone was killed, yes a harsher punishment, but not in an adult prison where "things" are going to happen to this kid....

Maybe one day it will happen to you but you get injured or a family member killed by accident from an armed entrance into your home... Still going to think they should only cover the bill or have their internet cut off? Wow Detro... Wow.

Ariakas has a point: someone called the cops on my brother and the neighbor kid when they were playing with CLEAR, ORANGE TIPPED airsoft guns. When the cops arrived, they pulled out their guns at my brother and the kid. Both of them were about 15 at the time. What is stopping the cops from shooting someone (a member of your family) if they are holding a knife because they were cutting some sort of food? or shooting your dog because they barked at the cops when it started becoming aggressive because the swat team forcefully entered its territory?

Also: calling in some sort of bomb threat is a FELONY, punishable by law. Depending on state, it is called "Felony Disorderly Conduct" and the sentence is various between state and/or judge. There IS a law against that and sorry to say it, the kid BROKE THE LAW.

Another factoid that was brought into the light: PRISONS: Prisons are not just for murderers, sex offenders, and robbers, they are for so much more than that. Prisons are for people who wronged either the state, city, any type of institution created by a person, city, or state, and to make an example out of certain people. Detri said that he did not do anything severe by calling in a false report, WRONG! The 911 operator, or police dispatcher, was tied up taking THAT report instead of helping someone who really needed to be helped. He wronged the swat team because they used valuable time and resources that could have been used helping someone else, and he wronged all of the tax payers that supply all of the equipment and pay for the swat team to assemble, and finally, he wronged the person who got hurt.

Just because this story is fake didn't mean it couldn't happen. Swatting has happend multiple times in the past.
