Hey guys, I have been interested for a while about starting a youtube channel about gaming and stuff like that. I was just wondering about any of your guys' preferred recording programs and good editing programs. (Free of course). Would be greatly appreciated!

Well, I would use Fraps (Full Version) if you can get it. Then use DVD video Soft Free Studio to convert the videos to smaller size. As for your editor... I use windows movie maker and I absolutely HATE IT! It's the worst piece of crap program ever. I'm hoping someone knows of something better.

Yeah, I'm going to agree with Puma on this one. Fraps is one of the best programs out there for video recording, however the big problem with Fraps is that some computers can't run it well or at all (due to lack of system specs).... so.. your second choice is WeGame, it's relatively new out there, but no where as awesome as Fraps, it records at lower frame rates to offset the memory it takes to record on your computer versus Fraps.

But try Fraps first and see where that takes you.


As to video editing software, Windows Movie Maker isn't so bad, sure it's very simple and basic in what it can do, but that's what you get for paying nothing. Stick to WMM if you just want to make a good video without all the hassle of learning how to use the program. Also if you want to go the extra mile, then you must go with Adobe Premiere, it's a very solid movie maker, however, it isn't free..per se, well you can go to third party sites and get it, but I won't recommend any. But the hard part with Adobe is that you're going to have to learn all the tools for it, however the payoff is when you learn how to use Premiere well, then that'll be your go-to video editing software.

Alright alright, i like the ideas guys, thanks! I'm thinking about recording a character in World of Warcraft just leveling up to 85 with me talking in the back ground, making little jokes and comments about what's going on. I think it would be a lot of fun and i honestly think people would enjoy it. Thoughts?

Well, allow me to give you this suggestion ::

When Cataclysm launched, I started a Level 1 Goblin and raced to Level 85 as fast as I could to be the first *pure* Goblin 85 on the server (many others did race changes, so they got the "First 85 Goblin" achievement).

I was able to reach L85 in 4 days, 7 Hours of game played time (within the last week). That was with little/no rested XP.. so you're going to be making a looooong video.. =)

Or lots of videos, kind of like a show on tv. except i could do 20 minute videos a day. and as soon as im done that then i can start another one. Point is i could do this for a LOOOOONG time before i have to think about doing other stuff.

I know it isn't free, but I use Adobe CS for all of my video editing.

Hmm, what Adobe product is it? Fireworks? I always just use the design ones (photoshop, illustrator, indesign).

Premiere pro and after effects mostly, soundbooth and photoshop in there too sometimes
