Graphics Cards was created by [BBF]Vyndorn

My graphics card has been going funky lately, and a few minutes ago it totally blew out. I'm running everything as low as possible so I can still somewhat use a PC. Do you guys have any recommendations for a new good card?

P.S. My current card is a Nivida 8600 GT

There was a problem with 8600gt's that caused them to just completely fail suddenly. Cheap parts and such. It really depends on your budget but you can get something like an Nvidia gtx 460 or 560 fairly inexpensively and they're excellent cards.

The guys over at MW3 PC where telling me to get a GTX 560 Ti, they're about 200ish USD. Thanks for your support though Shahal, I'll look into those cards.

Definitely get the 560 if you got the cash. It outperforms the 460 significantly. Only reason I suggest the 460 is it is dirt cheap in terms of hardware. And for an SLI setup it's the best bang for your buck.

8600GT is known for many problems.

before you buy anything.

1. make sure you have enough juice on your PSU Watts and Amps for your new card

2. Make sure your CPU isn't goin to bottle neck the card really bad.
- core2duo + gtx680 = huge bottleneck

3. make sure your case will fit your new card.

4. think about your monitor Res

I totally agree. make sure that your power supply can support the new card. I can't tell you how many friends have bought a card they thought would rock, but ended up nerfing their system because the power supply couldn't support the new card. If a system is under powered it will still run, but as soon as your card needs the juice in-game.....expect a whole world of hurt lol

While the points are very correct from Sleepwalker and everyone, that 'bottle neck' being any real issue depends on if you want to upgrade that C2D any time soon. If you go quad at some point you'll unlock some head room. I ran the first SLI rig here in BBF and my single core was nothing in terms of a 'bottle neck' but yes, I know games are so multi threaded these days...

Just an idea of upgrade path here

GTX680: Single card plan that will be a little cramped until cpu is upgraded to quad core
or
GTX560: Single card plan with quad core cpu upgrade affordable soon
or
GTX460: Single card plan with quad core cpu upgrade potentially now and a SLI future option that's easy on the wallet

I'm using the 560 ti from nVidia, got it around Christmas time of last year, if you want a good recommendation, take mine since i'm running the card and know that it performs it great. (I run MW3 on it and it works perfectly, even better than perfect.) :)

I know first hand about CPU bottlenecks. Dealt with it for years on my last setup due to quad cores for lga775 sockets being so expensive and limited once the i-series processor came around. Yeah I could have went to an AMD setup for a reasonable price but why would i want an AMD lol.
