For me, even though i Have a gaming laptop, I almost (not all the way) wish i went back to getting a decent desktop and then a netbook for portability. That said the laptop dead cat has is really really sweet! Also, you may want to consider if you want your desktop to be the primary gaming machine or if you want your laptop for that.
Maybe post your current specs so people can help you decide what to upgrade if you choose to go with the laptop ;)

depends on your needs...if you a lot of time away from home and no access to your desktop, a lappy is great.
i picked up the asus G72 in january and it's great (the G73 didn't exist back then arghh).
if you get a laptop, get the G73, you won't get a better deal - just be aware that the battery life sucks and the power adapter is a BRICK. it really is a desktop replacement...the screen is sweet as well...
