I admit, this is not the MOST intense moment i've ever had on Day Z... but it got me pumped in the moment...

RPG and I were rollin around in the heli when I died so no big deal... i'll spawn and get a pick up and get my stuff back... there was one other player on the server besides us, so odds were he was far away... I spawned at Krutoy Cap and I went to the road to be more visible for the chopper... I look around just for the sake of looking around and I see that one other survivor running toward me down the road... I got that typical "i jut saw a survivor" feeling and I say in chat "Hi" and he keeps running at me... so I ask "friendly?"...

At this point I have NOTHING to defend myself and I can see that this guy has a pistol in hand at the least... my only backup is a heli on its way, but no gunners and the pilot is low on blood, himself...

so I decide to throw up my hand and salute this guy to try and indicate that I don't want to be shot and am unarmed... he proceeds to pull out a M4A1 and walk up to me, aiming it at my head and still not responding to my "friendly?" or salute.... just keeps the barrel on my head...

I hear RPG approaching in the chopper and I hold my salute... the guy obviously looks up at the chopper for a moment and I take a few steps closer to the man... just enough to access his backpack... What Luck!... He has stashed a DMR and two DMR magazines in his pack... I rip them out of the pack and my guy raises the rifle automatically... I could see the surprise in the other guys face now... I think he realized I was armed right at the last minute as he stepped back a few steps and took 4 DMR rounds to the torso and head... done...

I looted his corpse and got to the choppa and headed out.... I felt bad, but found myself justifying my actions... I did declare myself and ask... and he responded by putting his gun to my face... the kill in self defense earned me a bandit skin towel on my head (looks ridiculous still). After talking to this guy in sidechat after, I found that he actually had no idea I was a fresh spawn, or that the DMR that I shot him with was his... He was under the impression that we found him there and shot him with my own gun... funny how coincidences stir suspicion.

I don't think he was going to... and if it had just been me, I would have just waited to find out... but with the heli coming and rpg being low on blood and the potential for the guy to unload his assault rifle on the heli- I decided I would rather take my chances quick drawing the guy with his own weapon... stupid of him to get that close to someone without declaring himself and letting them rummage around in his pack... also stupid of him to put a gun in his pack with ammo for it (though ive made this mistake plenty... though nobody usually gets close to me before I shoot them down... im kinda a KOS guy... trying to work on that.)
