I didn't realize I didn't cancel SWTOR (a reflection on games in general) was created by [BBF]Lue

I got an email from the fine people at SWTOR telling me I will be billed for the next subscription fee if I did not cancel... Well I took care of that. I had to answer a bunch of reasons why I was quitting the game (even though I quit 6+ months ago I believe). I selected the option that the game didnt have enough for me to want to pay for it.... they wanted me to go into detail.

"I came to this game from the old SWG days and was hoping this game would have a more expanded space flight and combat system. I was totally disappointed with how cheap and corny the space portion of the game was.... Lego star wars did a better job in my opinion. I prefer a more complex "immersive" experience to my games and just like the NGE of SWG, this game is too simplistic and childish in nature to keep my interest. I know i'm the minority when I say all of this, as most new age "gamers" don't share my level of interest in games... But I will be going back to games I love that are far more complex and require some thinking to play... Games like old elder scrolls and such. SWTOR was good for a couple months until I hit end game and was bored out of my mind. Thanks for the good times, though. I hope future games learn from the pitfalls of today's games and go back to the classic days where no way points were given to you for mission objectives... no HUD saying "OVER HERE!" ... if I don't have the hints in my every day life- i don't want them in my video games. Us old gamers want a challenge again."

Anyone else think games are way too easy anymore? Whats the point of a RPG when they tell you what to do at every turn? I'm a huge RPG gamer and I love a good story (which SWTOR seemed to have for the most part), but what good is all of that when I don't even have to think for myself and all I do is point and click and win?... I solo'd the entire bounty hunter story... then solo'd the entire imperial agent story... then the trooper... then the smuggler... Eventually It just got so friggin boring and stale... I tried the PVP and I was actually very good at it, opposed to SWG (which i sucked at, but rocked everyones arse at space pvp).

But ultimately, the thing that always ruins a good RPG for me is the friggin waypoint saying "GO HERE AND WIN!" or the journals saying "GO HERE AND DO THIS AND WIN!".... I LOVE skyrim but I still hate skyrim and oblivion for ever doing this... Morrowind had it right... no waypoints or anything... they would tell you what needed to be done... maybe even a general area (which in morrowind is a ridiculously huge general area)... and maybe a direction to go... then? GOOD LUCK!

you felt so friggin awesome when you found something epic when you weren't given a giant arrow pointing at it... When did games suddenly make the shift to "I WIN!" mode? All these people that can't handle a challenge of their brain? I for one, am tired of the easy button. Games still sell, though... so I guess im the minority, aferall... Do people really have more fun knowing exactly what to do?... is it because people are so crunched on time and live a hectic life that they can't spend more than 5 minutes on a quest and any minor inconvenience of having to think about how to do something is a major turn off in the world of gaming?

I'll end my rant here... but to put this into Day Z perspective....

I hope rocket removes all HUD display... I hope hunger is measured by how much your stomach growls... I hope sickness is measured by sniffles, coughs, and pausing and vomiting for a couple minutes suddenly... I hope thirst is measured by dry mouth and that disgusting smacking of the lips and tongue sound (not really, i'de get annoyed....). I hope banditry and heroism is measured in mental stability... the more people you kill the more psychotic you become.. hallucinating and seeing survivors that are not real and vanish after you shoot them... Seeing survivors when you turn around staring at you and disappearing. How funny would it be to see a bandit shooting at thin air and giving his position away cause hes so eager to kill anything?

/end rant.

I blame people who write guides.

Task seems impossible ingame
Somone finds a way and gets awesome stuff
people see awesome stuff and try harder to get there causing more to pull it off
one of the people is a jackass and posts a guide for others
somone takes advantage of guides and makes a malicious guide
gamemaker says "well if people are gonna do that we'll just avoid guides and put waypoints in."
all games have waypoints.

They definitely need to get rid of the magical Sight/Sound indicators at least. The blood can easily be represented by the screen color, growling stomach for hunger, you could do a different dry cough for thirst, or maybe just a raspy breathing noise. Really the noises shouldn't kick in until you hit what would be blinking red. Just like real life you don't really notice how hungry or thirsty you are until you NEED it.

Anyone know what the new gun indicator is?

Yep. The gun indicator is the combat indicator... When you fire or get fired near, you enter combat. This is to prevent people from disconnecting or alt-F4ing during combat, as I believe it won't allow you to do either of these while it is blinking.

Ah yeah I read about that. Before it was just a thing at the top of the screen that said in combat. I think they're making it so you can log out, but it leaves a bot of you that can be killed and looted.
