Kitteh Black]I have tried many times to point out in a polite/friendly/easygoing way that the rules about not swearing are there, especially when there have been younger people in the channel or the language has gotten especially vulgar. Usually I get ignored or (in worse cases) mocked. It's very hard to be consistent about trying to pull people up on the rules (any rules) when you get mocked for it, sometimes by people who are higher in rank.
Emma, I have never ever seen you be ignored (while I'm in your channel) after politely broadcasting your feelings on the subject of swearing, mocked maybe but in a playful way never meant to hurt your feelings or to outcast you in anyway. Also BBF's age requirement is 16 so we should never have any guests in the server under that age (that’s not a rule I know of but should be).
Kitteh Black]I am not trying to stifle anyone or anything, but I'm sure as a clan we want our TS to be comfortable for as many people as possibly. At the moment, that leans completely towards the people who are swearing-inclined. I don't want it to lean all the other way, but I'd rather see a compromise or at least something clear set out so if people like me who are uncomfortable with swearing can leave TS if it gets too much, secure in the knowledge that it's just a pet peeve (so to speak) rather than also being against the rules.
Comfort can be seen in many ways just as swearing is. There is a compromise that has been in place if someone is swearing or a entire channel and you care not to hear it ask politely if that doesn’t work PM Paco with the names of those in the server. I know every time you have asked us to restrain our self's we try and if we slip we have enough respect to apologize to you personally.

You have not been the only BBF member that doesn’t care to hear the swearing so I am not trying to pinpoint you personally. You are an awesome friend it just irks me that the one night you don’t say anything you make a post which creates this issue when all you would have had to done is say "hey please stop." or messaged me and you know I would of gotten in and jumped some butts. :chain:
Itchy]Any Officer in that channel should say something to the person or pensons doing it. If they do not they are just as much to blame as the one that is doing it. If others feel it should not be going on they can report it. There is a chain of command and use it.
As an Officer I am not going to be the rule Nazi on swearing because as a human being I know it happens I do it from time to time so the occasional slip is 100% fine with me. Now there has been times people have started to banter and in that case you can bet your ass ill jump in and have a chat with them or move them out of the channel.

Now I personally do not believe we should get rid of the rule by any means, and we should not make a kiddie corner we don’t need to segregate this clan other then game type. I am also not saying let's all just go on a swearing rampage. I do not think the swearing is anymore excessive then it was 2 years ago in COD4.

I do not want anyone to outcast them self's and I don’t want anyone to leave because they cannot swear.

BBF is a very respectful place our members can get hot headed (even I have had my moments) but we are all friends here and we usually always kiss and makeup. If you don’t want to hear swearing have enough respect to ask members to stop before reporting them, and on the other hand we all need to have enough respect to abide by the wishes of those who are in the channel and don’t want us to swear.

Don’t just assume we know because we don’t we constantly have new members whom you have never talked to on a one on one basis so when you get in TS introduce yourself and if you care not to hear swearing say guys I would really appreciate if you don’t swear.

Use the push to talk feature...you can swear as much as you want, but only your wife/kids/dog will hear it:) if something game relevant comes up press your ptt key and share...this also keeps unnecessary clutter out of the game. On the other hand in the early bfbc2 days there really wasn't much swearing going on.
Excellent point DarkWater! :thumb:

Now, if we can just teach members how to use push to talk to filter themselves out when swearing some. :dodgy:

I can't stand when I hear a lot of "Ahh *&$%, that guy killed me" or "Oh @#&*, I died, that !#^$er must be hacking". I don't care to hear negative comments like this at all as they don't improve my gaming skill or add to my enjoyment playing games. In fact, it has the opposite effect. :@

GC and above are the ones who should be enforcing this rule. Now I know that from time to time you will get upset and it will sleep out and for the most past I am good with this, but there are some ways to keep this from happing like using the push to talk key. If you say it in your house or in your room were only you can hear it then who can complain your parents if you live with them?

The fact is that we are here for playing and having fun with people from all over, some do it and some do not. So the best thing is not to do it.

Again a little from time to time I will let slide but every other word and if I hear the F Bomb then I will kick you from TS and ever GC should be the same way.

I will give you one warning but after that you will get kicked not banned but kicked, if it keeps going then a ban may come. The fact is that we have younger people and females here so we should respect them like we would anyone.

And if I can go without saying it then anyone can.

I have already posted this once. The Rules of the clan ar here for a reason. BBF have been around much longer then most clan and there is a reason for this, We know how to do it right and what works and does not work.

There is no reason for trying this and trying that like yun pointed out. It has been tried time after time and every so often we get some one that wants to try it and yes I will try no things that might help but this is not new and we know this will not help.

So again the Rules of the CLan are here and they are here to stay.

Ok this is how it is. We have the rules no swearing. Everyone dose it now and then in game and there are others that do it all the time. If something happen in the game and someone lets a work or two out fine, but if it gose on with no end or someone just comes in swearing someone need to say something.

Any Officer in that channel should say something to the person or pensons doing it. If they do not they are just as much to blame as the one that is doing it. If others feel it should not be going on they can report it. There is a chain of command and use it.

Report it, who every it is and if you feel bad about it, PM someone so there is something to where we can go back and talk to them. If you feel like they will make things hard on you PM someone and things should be taken care. If not find me I am always around.

If an Officer dose not do anything he should have time off to think about why he is an Officer and what we stand for as a caln. We have kids in here and they don't need to hear it. I know other are in the same room with there kids and sometimes they hear it.

The rule is NO Swearing so the Officers need to keep it check.

see this is where i disagree to some extent, the other day myself and a few other bbfers were talking as men, there was contextual swearing as there often is in the channel, we were all ok with it, having a good yarn and i was getting to know a member that i had not really met before, another bbfer joined the channel and it immediatly went semi silent, to put it simply the blokes i was talking to were to afraid to speak how they usually do and were watching their words more than having a good yarn, this is the exact reason that i think the rule should be semi changed so that we can swear if everyone in the channel is ok with it, why fear being reported when everyone in the channel is actually ok with it, not to say we should kick that person out if they arnt ok with swearing but at least give the people who were in the channel first a chance by letting them know that your not comfortable with the language rather than running to one of the superiors and having a whinge, i believe one of the rules in BBF is NO WHINGING, as well as endorsing FUN and FAIR gameplay, if it gets personal then fair enough contact an officer but only if your THE PERSON IT WAS TARGETED AT i understand we are all offended in different ways but for instance, me calling tryinot an american wanker is far different than me saying it to someone else i dotn know (sorry tryin for using u in an example but i cant think of neone else id call a wanker lol:P love ya buddy), back to the point having to watch your words carefully and being hounded if accidentally letting a word slip in context isnt my idea of a fun bbf if you ask me. this isnt intended to be inflamatory in any other way im just trying to raise some valid (in my mind) points about this topic

I was just going to address this privately with Chaser, but since Entice brought it up also (or a situation identical to the one we were in just the other day): this topic was not brought on by any one situation or any one person. If someone contacted me in private and asked me to point fingers, I would not and could not do it. My notice of this happening in TS as a whole (and you all know that I channel hop to speak to different people enough that I do get around all of TS) and growing discomfort with the lack of alignment with (like I've said) our rules and our behaviour. It had no bearing on any specific incident or person.

Chasey: the reason you've never seen me be ignored while you're in channel is because you and several other members do take care to point out that I'm in channel and could people please watch the language. And I appreciate that hugely.

Nothing I've posted in this thread have been because I have personally had a problem with another member. If that was it, there's no way I would've posted this thread. This thread was my concern for our clan as a whole and I'm glad I brought it up, because there has been discussion and clarification.

hence the reason i am personally pushing for a change of the rules, not to completly allow swearing but to allow contextual swearing within close groups of friends who are ok with it, as u have personally said WHEN CHASEY AND SEVERAL OTHER MEMBERS ARE AWARE OF IT WE TRY OUR BEST TO CONFORM TO OTHERS VALUES, why cant we simply make the rule that if the people in your channel are ok with it its ok, if someone is uncomfortable with the swearing in the channel you HAVE to either VOICE YOUR OPINION and RESPECTFULLY ask them to try restraint and also add a NOTE IN THE CHAT WINDOW OF TEAMSPEAK about requesting them to stop so that any of the mods (pacos the only one i know so ill use u as an example) can see that you have requested for them to practice restraint, if further EXCESSIVE SWEARING is used then i believe its only fair to contact a moderator, to me this seems like a happy medium, excessive swearing present> request they stop and add a note in teamspeak so that the moderator can see that youve tried>if excessive swearing continues despite your request then contact administrator and leave the channel before engaging in an arguement with the people doing the swearing, and to add further to the clarity of my above idea i would classify excessive swearing as every second word so to speak, not somethinig like ..i was walking down the road.....and anyway this crazy sheila completly ran into a car and toatled it sending it towards me nearly killing me the crazy bit**, in small amounts withing the right context i believe swearing to be a way to voice your frustration, so to add a definition of excessive swearing then someone spamming the airways every time they die with a "oh u fing mongrel" or a sentence like the other day i was walking down the fing road and this fing c*** off her fing head ran into a car and fing nearly killed me the crazy fing sl**

feel free to post your response kitty but to me anyway i cant see why this isnt a happy medium for everyone, to reiterate

REQUEST THEM TO STOP AND MAKE A NOTE IN THE CHATLOG ON TEAMSPEAK

IF NO CHANGE IS MADE TO THE LANGUAGE AND EXCESSIVE PROFANITY CONTINUES THEN CONTACT A MODERATOR AND EXIT THE CHATROOM SO TO PREVENT INFLAMING THE INDIVIDUALS OR GETTING INTO AN ARGUEMENT, CHANCES ARE IF THEY DONT CARE THE FIRST U SAY IT ANY FURTHER REQUESTS TO STOP WILL ME MET WITH HOSTILITY

Thank you for clarifying Emma. I felt personally attacked because I know I wouldn’t allow people to disrespect you while I was in the channel.

I don’t really think anything needs to change except some peoples respect for other members. If we as a clan cannot manage to respect other members for their beliefs then we should just say no swearing PERIOD.

The rule is not going to change.

Again I do not mind it here and there and yes if a member asked you not to do it and it keeps up I will ban you from TS.

If you and a friend is in a channel and it is just you two and you are fine with it and no one else is in there then I have no clue what is going on in there BUT if someone else come in there then you better stop. If someone under 18 comes in there it better stop and if someone ask you to stop it, it better stop.

I do not mind the one here and there that come out when you get killed or something happens but it does not need to be every other word. Most of us here are adults and most of us here have kids. Sometimes I do not have my headset on and you can hear everything and I do not want my kids walking in the room and hearing that.

So less start acting like adults and treat people with respect that we all deserve. Again I know that most all the DC here have been in BBF for a very long time and there is no reason for us going over things like this that we have already been over many many times before in the past.
So again the rule will not change, be respectful to others and less play and have a good time.

And again I know the DC and I do not mind the one here and there just try to keep it down and if someone asks you to stop then stop plain and simple.

Does anyone have any more questions about this?

And if anyone leaves BBF just because you cannot swear on TS then I am sorry but this clan has been around for over 11 years now and there is a reason for that and that rules has been here since day one so that is not the problem. We as a clan have some much to offer then I feel any other clan could ever offer. Less focus on that and keep this the best clan in the world.
