amd 6990's????? was created by EnTIcE

just wondering if anyone knows someone or personally has one of these moan inducing graphics cards????
4gb is just insane nd i aint compromising on price for my new system already forked out over a grand for a i7-990X but if the graphics boost isnt gonna be too different compared to a 6970 i wouldnt mind the $400 saving as no games i know of are gonna be that draining on the card, thats a few carto's o rum after all, what i realy wanna know is if this special anti-aliasing system introduced is all that good, and whether the whole system is gonna burn to the ground if i dont have water cooling???

peace eshays

- 6990 is just two 6970 on one PCB. 6990 Runs hot and loud. Only benefit over 6970 CF will be little less power draw.

- In both companies' (Nvidia, AMD) latest serious ( 5XX, 6XXX), Nvidia Chips tends to scale better and runs cooler in multi-GPU situations.

- I personally had GTX 590. I sold it and went for 580 SLI. They scale better and much more powerfull. Same rules apply to 6990 and 6970 CF.

- If you must buy flagship card, i would stick with GTX 590.
- about the same performance.
- runs cooler and quiter
- tends to scale better on games
- less problems with drivers (internal SLI)
- has smaller foot print

- Anti aliasing isn't much of a deal lately. If played on monitor bigger than 27" it will make some difference but. AA x16 or less or above wouldn't show on 24" 1900 X 1080 monitors. (you should try it with your system right now and you wouldn't tell much of difference)

- If you really want to drop a buck to have Extreme PC. you could wait for the card coming out from Asus. Mars card. it is two 580 on one pcb. (each 580 is clocked higher than normal ones.) it should be about 20% powerful than 590.

cheers sleepy, yer ive never been much of an amd man tbh, just seen that its the best card on the market, i usually buy behind the curb but this time ill be going for broke, any idea when the new mars card would be likely to hit australia???

and yea, going to get a 32" screen this week so i guess the AA will be rather important, any other suggestions feel free to chuck em up lads nd lassies, also a question to sleepy again, i used to run a zalman 9700led that i salvaged from my old comp before i sold it would that be enough to cool my new processor or should i be looking at going with a water cooling system or a newer air cooling alternative?

If you are chucking up the cash for this type of software go water cooling. Don’t skimp on the protection policy is what I say haha.

1. CPU
- there is new 2011 socket coming out on Intel shortly. 1155 socket replace 1156 socket, 2011 socket will be replacing 1366 socket (price will be the same as 1366 stuff). If you can wait little more for new build, i would go with that.

- there is bulldozer lineup coming out on AMD as well and they are going to perform as good or even better than 1155 socket platforms. keep this in mind as well

- I have i7-990x (from 1366 socket $1,000) , i7-930 (from 1366 socket $300) , and i7 -2600k (from 1155 socket $300). Gaming performance would be 2600k > 990x > 930. 990x does what it's suppose to do in video editing (when you have a deadline to meet in like an hour so so ). They are all overclocked 990x (4.4Ghz), 930 (4.2Ghz), 2600k (5.2Ghz). During gaming FPS difference between 2600k and 930 is about 5 to 7 fps. (at the most)

2.GPU
- MARS card will be here shortly as well. but it will be price over $1,000(us) for a single card. It will be the most powerful single PCB card for sure.

- i would just buy two MSI GTX 580 and overclock them, it would perform much better than 6990 or 590 for sure.

3.Cooling
- i would buy corsair H100 and just put that factory sealed liquid cooler to cool cpu.

-MSI make good enough altered cooling gtx580 for overclock. i wouldn't bother liquid cooling GPU.

-If you really want to custom liquid cool the entire computer (CPU, GPU, maybe MB and RAM as well). You will be looking at extra $1,000 (us) for cpu block, gpu block, Res, pump, Rad, hose, Fittings, silver coil and so on...)

something like this --

4. answer to you question
- zalman coolers are horrible. i don't understand why there are so many ppl using them. i guess bcuz it's all over newegg. i would buy h100or h80 and overclock it and be safe with it.

let me know if u need more help

my zalman was outa a 4 year old computer gimme a break, it was the bees knees in its time:P so whats your exact price on a 990X in the states (for a price comparison) i may consider buying my stuff over there then gettting it shipped, over a whole system who knows with our aussie dollar flogging the us dollar recently it may end up being cheaper over here the cheapest ull get is 1055 i guess....cheers lads, and with the water cooling, ive always been a sceptic (water and electrical componants dont mix) with the corsair you suggested is it gonna be a c*** to setup?

- 990x is $999.99 (us)
- corsair Hydro series (h60 h80 h100) are closed loop. They work as good as high-end air coolers. And you don't need to worry a thing about liquid. it's already in there and sealed. You install like a aircooler and forget!
this is my second system with corsair H80 installed.
