Nvidia SLI on a ATI Crossfire motherboard? Nonsense you say?? I'm here to tell you all it's a fact and Skaxis beastly machine I built a few months ago is the genuine article, running a pair of Nvidia 460 GTX cards in SLI on a NON SLI MOTHERBOARD.
I posted up his system previously (months ago) showing what board exactly and system specs but that's not what important here. I wanted to share with my clan the fact that it is real and is possible. His 6 core AMD cpu on the Crosshair motherboard with tons of RAM on a budged, scored SLI after a few months of the technology and drivers maturing. Sure it's not an issue on some of the new motherboards out there that are sporting SLI -OR- Crossfire at your whim but here I will show you all my findings on exactly what it takes to make it happen, should you be so bold.
First of all my studies revealed not one site/forum having all the links/data/info in one place. I'll fix that here. Also note it's rather touchy and you must follow the formulae esle you won't get a Mr Hyde from your Dr Jekyll machine!
The Formulae using the most current driver numbers at the time of this thread.
Run 280.26 driver for nvidia
restart
run SLIPatch v1.5
restart
Run Modified Driver 280.26 in folder (install.cmd and only a flash of a window happens. I also ran all other .exe just to be sure )
restart
at boot you will notice a new boot option with SLI. If not, run modified driver and other .exe again and restart.
select SLI function in Nvidia Control Panel and enjoy!
*You MIGHT see 'Test Mode' in the bottom right if you did it all right. Not to worry, this is normal and a indication you are in SLI booted mode.*
Download the 280.26 Nvidia Driver (32 or 64 bit) on your own with a Google search.
