New website almost ready! was created by Pacos Old Posts
- Tested new install of PHPBB3 with Munkey
- Created a join form from an existing PHPBB3 MOD...worked pretty well
- Realized that there were too many reasons not to look at other forums besides PHPBB3
- Tested Joomla CMS integration with PHPBB3
- Installed a test Simple Machines Forum and installed a few mods
- Munkey assisted testing SMF and worked on the theme a bit
- Tested Mybb and realized it fit our clan well
- Installed test forum to look at a few mods and the theme
- Installed a few mods, modified the theme, had a working forum but with issues from some mods
- Worked on the theme a bit more while testing
- Saved some notes and configuration then wiped the Mybb install
- Oh..ordered a new webhost a few steps back there...after a night of research (still cheap, but hopefully better than GoDaddy)
- Installed fresh 'live' Mybb forum, base theme, mods
- Customized the layout of the theme and some CSS elements (pain in the butt!)
- Set up a dropdown menu..works ok, but I'd like to redo it eventually
- Reorganized links and content
- Updated some of the content pages more and updated links again
- Worked on groups, time based ranks, forum configuration, etc.
- Slowly downloaded a copy (in mutliple DB dumps) of our existing phpbb3 forum
- Copied old forum files and get a working version up on new webhost
- Ran some of the prune and cleanup tasks our old webhost would time out on
- Narrowed down users from 900 (many bots, recruits, members who had not been on in a long time) down to a few hundred of the most active or who had been in the clan a long time
- Merged the old forum with Mybb....crossed fingers....the magic worked!
- Tested user logins, worked on forums, permissions, etc.
- Quite a bit in there I didn't list....but a HUGE THANKS TO MUNKEY AND THOSE WHO HELPED TEST !!!
Phew...what a lot of work over the last few weeks.......
I hope to get the new site live this week. The theme could use some work as I'm not a php/html/css guru...more of a noob....but it looks about as shocking as the last site looked when DK first showed it to me. lol
