How do you guys feel about Norton and McAfee? Which is better and worth the money?

I know there are different choices so let’s ompare the

McAfee Total Protection to the Norton 360.

I bought Norton but never put it on my computer because McAfee came free with Comcast. So I can't say but now I have Kaspersky Anti Virus and it seems to be doing a very nice job.

I wouldn't bother with either.

Microsoft Security Essentials is free, and it does a brilliant job provided you're careful, which is much the same as any antivirus software.

Neither...Both are not that effective.

If you have to have one find another brand. I have not heard one good thing about either. Currently on my work comps we use Mcafee. It sucks processor.

I use abstinence. The game rig does not surf the net my other PC is expendable.

Also even if you get a virus I would wipe the machine and reinstall as that is the only way I can be assured the virus is gone.

I don’t even bother trying to get rid of the virus I just wipe and reinstall but if I do plan on spending 2k on a comp I sort of want to protect my investment. I know what I download and I don’t worry about it but it’s always nice to make sure things are covered.

It will be on a mostly gaming rig but net surfing will happen at times I’m sure of it.

I would go for avast or ms security essentials.
Believe it or not, free is the way to go in terms of security.

Norton and McAfee are also very clunky and suck up tons of memory,
and they don't even catch as many as avast or ms security.

I would strongly go against buying an AV suite, it is better to use avast, scan every once in a while and run Malwarebytes to watch for malware.

If you do have a virus, try getting rid of it with Hitman Pro.

Cheers!

i use Avast Free. It's free and works great and doesn't take up too much memory like AVG does. And I'm too cheap to buy Norton.

In my experience i would have to agree with everyones else post to stay away from both Norton and McAffee. I have been using Avast for the past 8 years and i only every got 2 viruses in that entire time (both times were my fault). Avast is a very nice program it rarely using a lot of resources unless its doing a scan. there are updates every few days for avast to keep as up to date with the latest viruses or threats. also malware is a good program to have just to keep that stuff out and from slowing your rig down. as far as AVG i have never used it and i hear mixed opinions on it also. ms essentials i have used either and i havent heard much about it either
