Computer issue, need help before I toss this thing out of the window was created by [BBF] Schwartzwald

I have a Toshiba laptop that has been giving me some grief for some time now. The problem I am having is either with my web browser(s) or my Flash Player. I like to watch shows on the internet: anime, YouTube, [blank].com (edited since it contains 18+ content), and Dorkly. ALL of the videos have the same problem, they do this lag thing where they lag (up to several seconds) during the video while the sound continues on with out interruption.

Now, I am not a computer expert but I asked my professor at my college about it (shes is pursuing a doctorate in IT... yes, apparently there IS a Ph.D in IT) and she said it was either my flash player or my browser, so I tried updating Flash: didn't work. Then I tried different browsers: Chrome, Exploder (that's what I call anything man-made with the name "Explorer" in it), and Safari and all 3 had the same problem.

About an hour ago, I downloaded a registry cleaning program that cleaned up 1,756 errors and 2.5 GB of junk files and videos are still lagging.

ANY help would be greatly appreciated and PLEASE, no "get a better laptop" posts, IF i could afford a better laptop I would have gotten one already

Specs:
Computer: Toshiba Satellite C655D
Ram used/left: 85/201 GB
OS: Windows 7 (64 bit)

WORST CASE ONTARIO. re-format your PC to factory settings.

BEST CASE ONTARIO. try the built-in defragmentation tool that comes with windows. Click START>SEARCH>DEFRAG

Should pop up.
I honestly think restoring to factory settings would be the best route. It would swipe it clean and leave you fresh. Also, i recommend never buying a TOSHIBA again in your life.

1. since you are running 64bit windows, try to play videos using 64-bit I.E.

2. if it works good, that means you have to re install flash and browsers

3. could be over heating issues. check all the vents

4. ATI drivers have bit a problems with flash players time to time
download new drivers for ur GPU

5. what happens when u run videos from ur HDD ???

6. do u have enough bandwith to watch stream videos?

Sleepwalker nailed everything I was gonna say with a few extra ones, like Havok said, worst case you reformat it. Also yeah, in the future avoid Toshiba. If none of Sleepwalkers ideas work, come back and tell we'll see waht else can be done.

So many things can get in there to impact performance of flash. Registry mess, massive browser cache, hard drive defragmentation, etc.

There's simply no one-button-fix for something like this. Could it be hardware related? Sure.

One tool I like to use to keep things running smoothly is called "ccleaner" from Piriform (piriform.com). You don't have to pay for it. It'll run through your system, clean out browser cache, temp files and all sorts of miscellaneous junk as well as do a pretty good job of scrubbing through your registry for garbage that needs to be removed/fixed. It also allows you the ability to toggle off some of the junk that starts with Windows automatically (the same you can do by running msconfig).

Again I would still suggest looking at a disk defrag as well (your hard drive tends to make a mess of itself over time) - assuming you don't have a SSD in that laptop. Windows Defrag (or even Defraggler from Piriform) can do this for you.

None of these are guarantees, just good upkeep/maintenance suggestions.

Well done Akkim, you should consider working as a PC Repair man.

Im assuming that "Ontario" is "scenario" and a bad pun about my explorer/exploder comment.

I am in the process of defraging, didn't know it would take a more than an hour -.- and I am unable to reformat because my mom uses my laptop as well and she would be [bleep]ed if I deleted all of her stuff and I am too lazy to save it to a flash drive[hr:33gpy2re][/hr:33gpy2re]

1/2. I tried I.E. when I had flash installed and it would lag, both on the regular AND 64bit, not to mention of chrome AND safari. I uninstalled flash from my computer and for some reason thought I would see if I could download flash from youtube (you know, the "no flash player found, please install with this link") and it played the video swimmingly with no hitch.

3. vents are clear, vents are not blocked with outside things and my room is usually at a nice 50 degrees all day long, at MOST 75 degrees.

4. I tried looking up drivers and even tried going to the AMD website itself and there are no drivers I can find for my ATI Radeon HD 6310

5. when I run videos from either disk or hard drive, they play just fine

6. yes, the problem started with the last update of google chrome, ever since then, [bleep] has hit the fan (so to speak)[hr:33gpy2re][/hr:33gpy2re]

I downloaded a program called "Advanced SystemCare 5" from Download.cnet.com. its not the "complete" version, but the free version got 4 out of 5 stars downloader reviews and 5 out of 5 on the website's employee review. It searches for obvious viruses and malware, cleans registry, deletes broken shortcuts, and clears out junk (in the year Ive had the laptop, i had almost 2,000 errors and 2.49 gb of junk)

Yeah but the it wasn't a comment targetted at your PUN lol. It's just something i say to cheer people up. But you're spot on that ontario=scenario. :D

Defragging takes forever haha. It really sucks if you need to do two drives and just not one.

Make backups of ALL important files, including your moms stuff. Cleaning registry and playing with drivers too much can result in some unintended problems...hopefully nothing will happen, but seen it enough, so ne prepared...yes it will suck having to reinstall if the worst happens, but at least you got your savegames, pictured, etc....
