Issues with Freebuild / Guest permissions / General Feedback was created by [BBF]f1shman

Last week I had the opportunity to test out Guest permissions for a while and I found several issues that I would like to bring up and have reviewed.

First and foremost, I found it very difficult to navigate freebuild. There are no street signs, direction signs or anything. The player is left on their own devices to find their plot and navigate back to it. This is compounded by the fact that Guests can not /sethome. Why? If I claim a plot, and I have 3 bread to last me up until the time I can establish a farm for myself, at least save me the hassle of having to walk a mile to get back to my plot when I die. I feel bad for anyone who logs onto the server during the night phase when mobs are plentiful as I know they will have a terrible experience trying to find where their stuff dropped after they are done being mugged by the tons of mobs that pop up in town. Is the server set on hard difficulty?

Speaking of mobs, even though guests default to have mob spawns "off" on their claimed plots, mobs still persist when walking onto the property. That means that everyone has to remember to close their doors or have a creeper sneak in and try to snatch yo people up. Guests WOULD be able to automatically close doors with a simple Lockette sign above them, but since Guests have no permissions at all for lockette they can't. Lockette permissions should be enabled for everyone. Give people a chance to get familiar with the plug-in while they are in freebuild so that if they get promoted and move out of freebuild they have a better understanding of how to protect their stuff.

Guests have little area to gain materials. As I was walking around I did not come across any community areas such as a farm or tree farm in which I could gather supplies. This is compounded by a permissions problem that does not allow Guests to destroy anything in the wild outside of freebuild. Need seeds and have no grass on your plots? Tough luck. Need wood and have no trees on your plot? Oh well.

I am also not that big of a fan of the way that spawn is set up. It is not a safe area for players to navigate in that it is currently surprisingly easy to kill yourself in. The curved walkways over open lava pools and open lava columns from the ceiling are a recipe for disaster for anyone with a laggy connection or an older computer that does not render lava as easily. The area could also easily be exploited to grief players by anyone with too much time on their hands and an inventory of snowballs.

I agree, We should have street signs. I think the mobs should disappear when on someone's plot (Like a bought plot).
I think the server is on Easy but Curruption might turn it to Normal.
When I was a guest quite recently I could use Lockette. Did it not work for you?
Anyone (Guests, Cadets, Members) Can destroy in the wild. I could when I was a guest. You just have to walk out pretty far.
If you type -/Warp Portal it takes you to the portal room and skips the possibility of falling into lava.

I'd be really surprised if the server is on easy setting. Lockette is completely disabled for guests. I talked with a guest who was asking about the plugin this morning since he had the same problems that I had with it.

I didn't traverse far into the wilderness to test the destroy permissions. I was working just off of freebuild. I wasn't trying to build out there, I was just trying to take out some grass to get seed. If you need to travel outside of a set boundary to gather seed we should put it on a few signs in the game. I know we have the wiki site on the side, but I doubt you'll have many guests who are server hopping that are willing to stop and read a wiki page to figure out they have to go x blocks outside of the border to obtain stuff.

The portal room is just as deadly as spawn. Although the pathways there are straight, there are still openings over lava and columns of lava dropping from the ceiling that people could walk into.

The issue about spawn is nothing we can really do. We have built many different spawns in the past, from mazes/jumping squares, to big outdoor themed worlds like the pyramid/lighthouse, to the current one. Each time we've made one, people have always complained about lag.

Honestly in my opinion those people should stop complaining about lag and ask their parents to slap down 35 more dollars for an extra 2gb of ram so they dont lag.


The reason guest don't have lockette is simple: they dont need it. As it is currently set up, nobody except the plot owner can build or tend to anything on the plot. This is because of people griefing "friends" in the past and it just causes to my political hassle. There is no need for guest to have lockette since your plot is protected anyway.

Navigating freebuild does pose an issue I suppose. Perhaps we could make "districts" with various colors of wool on fences about every 4 to 5 plots, with signs pointing to the direction of other colors. Like a parking garage.

The point about resources is understandable. Some guest tell me theyre not allowed to gather from the outside wildners, while others can. A public resource pit of stone and various trees would be nice.

Alright after working 9 hours already ill try to explain his the best i can.

First let me start by saying i set groups up in a way that encourages people to join the clan and have some incentive to do so.

Spawn As Vyndorn said we have build many Spawns over time and just about every time we do some one somewhere complains. This go around i asked Members and guests alike what they wanted and for the most part what i got was.

  • Less Signs
People dont read signs plain and simple. The more signs we have the less likely they will read them so i tried to keep it simple.

  • Straight to the point
From the spawn point you have a nice straight-ish path you follow until you get to the portals. No hoops to jump thru or anything fancy in those terms.

  • LAVA to represent Baptized By Fire
So many people asked for this and i knew it would cause some lag spikes for people when first entering the world but its a great idea.

  • Shaped like a tardis
TurtleGirl suggested this and i thought she was crazy but after some searching i liked the idea and i tried to nail it while still making things simple.


Yes Spawn may cause some lag spikes for people with trash computers and what i suggest is when entering any MC server or world before moving and running around stand still and let things load. Java programs are not very good about giving them more RAM when needed and MC is set to about 1GB max so dedicating more RAM (if you have it) is an amazing way to boost performance in Minecraft (2GB should be more then enough). You can add more RAM either thru the command prompt box (I have not done this) or thru a third party launcher like MultiMC or Magiclauncher (i have both and this is very easy to do.)


Freebuild Freebuild is HUGE compared to the last few freebuilds there are 100 plots total -2 display plots that is why we have a East and West Freebuild portal. I am wanting to make a map of Freebuild but have been very busy Freebuild can be very hard to navigate i understand but spend a few days there and you will figure it out. For those that have gotten the privlage of flying over Freebuild most of us agree its not as complicating as it looks so a map would be awesome.

Below is just a piece of the GuestWrodl settings and as you can see it is set on Normal.

Plot's and Mobs
How we have it set now is if you cannot pay taxes then your plot goes back up for sale and if you have not logged in for more then 2 weeks your plot goes back up for sale. This helps us not have to spend every day in the server seeing who has been active and who has not plus it keeps us from having to expand Freebuild every few weeks.

Town Taxes are 1 dollar and plot taxes are 1 dollar for each plot so daily taxes are 5 dollars. Mobs were added so that players can kill them and gain money because we by no means want you to loose your plots. I can go around and turn mobs off on all the actual plots and they should de-spawn within 5 seconds (yes this still gives creepers to explode).

Wilderness starts about 20 blocks outside of Freebuild if you wank you will see in the chat it will say "Wilderness" when you reach the wild and "Freebuild" when you have reached town. (I did notice alst night a permission was messed up and i fixed it right away. That perm is towny.wild.* which allows people to build/destroy in the wild)

/sethome and lockette are some of the tools that are perks of joining. Lockette is unnessacary anyways because no one but you and the admins can do anything in your plot. People my get on your plot but they cannot Switch, item use, build, or destroy so lockette is unnecessary we have the Freebuild plots set for easy use because again people will not read signs about lockette but they will bug all of us in chat. I can increase the amount of food the server gives you to start.

Members have build rights in the wilderness of Freebuild as well but cannot use lockette there. The wilderness of Freebuild is all out survival.

Community areas uggh i knew this would come up. We have tested countless plugins that should regen areas after so much time but let me tell you something they all stink!!! I had so many issues and headaches with the regen plugins im done with them i cannot tell you how many times i would have to force the server down and back up then make the farm over and reconfigure the plugin. It is what i call a PITA.

Street signs humm we have tried this before and if any one can come up with names for all of the streets ill give you the signs and give you build access the freebuild so you can do it. This might work best after a map is created.



I think i covered everything but if i didn't or i caused more questions feel free to reply back i am willing to answer all that is MC since i know most all of our plugins like the back of my hand and i configured all of them i am here to help.

F1shman i have made changes to the server.

/kit starter can be claimed weekly and it included 6 bread instead of 3 and also included 4 wheat seeds.

Guests can now type /plot toggle mobs and this will turn mobs off on their plots.

There are signs around spawn and a repeating message thru the server informing of people to check spawn for new information.
