Something Ive been noticing when playing with someone very new to the game: They get very frustrated and quickly convince themselves that maybe this just isn't for them. The truth is, guys, that LoL has a HUGE learning curve. Its hard for us more experienced members to see because so much of it is second nature now, and its hard for new players to see because of the massive amount of information we're throwing at them.

It takes most people over a YEAR to get good at this game. Thats not an exaggeration. You cannot just jump in and expect to go 28/0/4 every game off the rip. Give it time. All things in LoL come with experience.

That being said...you're probably gonna have a rough time if you're level 8 and you join a bunch of us on our level 30 accounts for a game or two. Generally, our core members have a pretty high MMR, and thus get matched with players of a superior skill level. On that topic...ask us to play on our smurfs with you. All of us have smurfs for JUST this reason. Do not be afraid to ask, we don't mind at all.

Hey new guys! BigBean is quite right. This game is really intimidating. I would like to give just a couple of minor tips from someone who has played this game for FAR too long.

1. Start off slow. Back in my day *bones crack* we didn't quite have the bots you guys have now. You kind of had to learn on your own. However, its a great way to learn champions and learn what items work, and what does what. EXPERIMENT in bot games. stray a little bit from that recommended build. Find something that you think will work very well with the champion you are playing, or the items that you are already building and try it out. You might find something that works really well.

2. Don't try to do ranked games as soon as you hit level 30. Most newbies are not ready for ranked. You can get matched up with not only people of a higher skill level, but also much more...colorful personalities if you can catch my drift.

3. Try not to rage. If you lose, think back about what you did wrong. Did you get too aggressive? Not aggressive enough? Were you helping your team? Just find your mistakes and learn from your experiences. I still find myself being really aggressive in top lane and I end up getting ganked by the enemy mid or jungle, sometimes causing me to lose the lane.

4. Last but not least, I was once asked by a pro player "If you could tell every new player to ever join in LoL, what would you tell them?" I would tell all the new players to learn to last hit minions. I used to SUCk at last hitting minions, but with time and practice I can last hit pretty good now. Last hitting minions is such an important mechanic in LoL that you will become a very heavy burden on your teammates if you do not kill minions. Minions=gold. Champions are not important, kill minions....lots of them. If you need to practice last hitting, start in a bot game by yourself. Pick your favorite champion so far and just work on hitting the minions when their health bar is really low.

I hope that helps any new players that might feel a bit frustrated. I remember my first few months playing league. Addicting but fun.

You convinced me to try League. I have no idea why, I've tried it before, and I swear I wanted to burn my computer.

Once you learn to play, detro, you start to love it:) its that learning curve that makes people cut

And I'd like to reinforce something Mobius said: Last hitting! Super duper freakin quadruper important! Practice practice practice!

Also, while bots are great practice (especially intermediate ones), once you get the hang of what you're doing a bit...jump into some pvp! Honestly, I believe intermediate bots are more difficult to deal with than your average level 5-15 summoner. Dat reaction time (or lack thereof in this case). And you never really get a "feel" for how the meta works against bots (no jungler, no fights over baron or dragon, etc.). Try it out!
