We have some new people joining us lately! Most of which are either not overly familiar with the game or just plain new to it. A lot of them seem to be having troubles figuring out what champions to use/buy/try out. So hopefully this thread will help them to figure out where to start. I'll go through each "role" and speak a bit about which champion fits into that role that is easiest to pick up and play.

Ranged Attack Damage Carries (Bot lane): These guys/gals are mostly about auto attacks and doing as much damage as possible with them, while staying safe. They are *very* item reliant, and don't get especially strong until lategame.

For this role I would say Caitlyn is a great champ to start with. She has the highest base attack range in the game, and because of this is extremely safe to play. Her Q is a line damage nuke with high range, good for poking and picking off targets from range. Her W gives her very good lane utility. Three traps in lane and you suddenly have great harass potential. Her E is a great escape tool, as well as a chase tool. Her R is super safe, high damage, and easy to master. No one gets away from Caitlyn. She is easy to use simply because you can make mistakes with her and still do well. Its a very forgiving kit.

Ability Power carries/Assassins/Attack damage fighters; Mid lane: There is a HUGE selection of champions who can end up in mid. The lane itself is the shortest of the three. It often is the epicenter of ganks and roaming laners. Champions who can kill creep waves quickly and roam to other lanes work the best here in the current meta.

For mid, I'd suggest Annie, to start. As an AP champion its a bit harder to last hit minions, but her Q refunds the mana cost if you kill your target with it. Its a great skill to help you learn how to properly last hit and practice! Her W is an area of effect nuke, and her E is a self buff that gives you bonus armor and magic resist, and damages those who attack you. Her R is an area of effect nuke that leaves you with her pet "tibbers", who attacks enemies and constantly damages them. Shes a great starting mage!

Supports (bot lane): Generally, supports do not last hit minions, but instead protect their ADC and assure that they make it to lategame. As such, they usually build "gold generation items" such as Ancient Coin, Targon's Brace, etc. They bring utility and some extra damage to your team, and assist in getting the win!

A good support to start with is Sona. She brings a bit of everything to the table. Her skills are all auras, with an extra effect upon activation. Her Q increases your allies' attack damage, and damages two nearby enemies upon activation. Her W gives extra health regen, with a small heal upon activation. Her E gives a movepseed buff, more intense upon activation. Her R is a huge area of effect stun nuke. Shes quite simple really, just pick her up and see for yourself!

Top Laners: Top lane is a farm fest. Farm, farm, farm. Usually it is home to lategame monsters (generally tanks) who just sit up there and make money until 30 minutes in when they descend and wreck face. Other types are played, but Im just talking the current meta.

A good champ to start with top is Garen. He has innate health regen, and is manaless, so he can stay in lane forever. His Q is silencing auto attack that does extra damage, his W offers you bonus armor and magic resist. His E is an area of effect spin. His R is an execute that does more damage to targets with low health. He is good to start with simply because of how safe he is. He is tanky, does damage, and has a decent auto attack animation.

Jungling isnt something you should worry about too early on...but if you insist, I'd suggest using Xin Zhao. If only because his first clear of the jungle is so safe.
