A few thoughts on the LoL Division and it's recruits was created by [BBF]Sopheus

Hi everyone,

I'm still a Recruit here and I'm not sure if I'm crossing lines with this post or not. I'm aware though, that I might be stepping on at least some peoples toes. But anyways...

I enrolled here about 2 weeks ago and my impressions of the clan so far all come down to the word "confussion". Maybe I'm simply blind to it, but the CoC left aside, I'm not able to find any structure in the division, especially regarding new members.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not intending to point fingers or anything like that. My intention is to bring up some constructive critique.

So yeah, if you look at the forum, there are several threads from new members who are looking for people to play with (I wrote one myself, so I know, lol.). There's nothing wrong with that at first glance, but if you think about it ... Is it really a good standard for a clan like BBF to have newcomers running around clueless on how to get in line with the rest of their clanmates?

In LoL we're facing a problem, which you don't find in other games like FPS': Matchmaking. If you take your common MMO FPS game, you'll have a server there where everyone is playing on and the new people just join that server and are right in the fray. But on LoL you have to find people first before you can start playing.

So, why not setting up a division rooster? A list of all current BBF-Members and recruits of the LoL division. A new recruits duty would than be adding those people to their friendslist in LoL. Because finding people to play with starts right there, where you can see who's online and who's free for a game.

My next topic is: Integration.

New clan members are a folk of their own. And as all people they all got different characters. You'll always have some walking in "Here I am, let's roll", but there are also others, who aren't as extroverted. If you want those to fit into your community, you'll need set members to approach them, or even drag them by ear. It always takes two to dance tango, but someone always has to make the first step. A clan (and that includes every single member of said clan) simply has certain obligations in this area, but that's my opinion.

Why am I bring this up you ask? Quite simple; In those two weeks I'm here, there was hardly anyone who approached me on his/her own accord to play a match, neither ingame nor in TS. I'm not really complaining about this for myself, I'm rather introverted when it comes to new people and always need alot of time to settle myself with new people, so I'm used to this. But BBF is a clan that wants to grow and establish itself in the WWW and here's space for improvement.

How can this be improved? There are many ways, for example:
  • the officers can grab new people when they see them on TS and introduce themselves.
  • There can be scheduled games for new recruits, beside the the "you have to post 4 times a week in the forum to be active rule"
  • If you see someone in a TS room on his own, just move him/her to the rest of the pack (unless you're in the middle of a match)
  • Invite other clanmembers to games, even if you know they suck ingame (they cant improve without training)
  • ... and so on ...

Oh well, I'll end here now, since this post just gets longer and longer.

Again, my intention is NOT to point fingers, or troll, or what ever. I'm also not demanding anything. I'm simply bringing up a matter that's often invisble to "older" clan members. So yeah. I'm simply trying to make suggestions to make a great clan even better.

So long,
Sopheus

I've found that for the most part...the best way to find a team to play with is to get on TS. There is rarely a time where someone is left by themselves if theyre on TS actively looking for a game. I understand the need to approach new members and integrate them, but BBF is a community, as in: You decide your own level of participation. If an officer takes you along for a few games when you start, and then you dont actively try to join in on TS, you simply cannot expect to be hunted down and dragged to a game. Its a big clan, with A LOT of new people. The best way is to simply be there, and make your presence known. Try it. Log on to TS, hop in the most populated room and say "So whos looking for a game?". Trust me, it works.

Also, I agree heavily on one point. If I see someone with a "G" next to their name, I automatically move them to my room. Having no move permission sucks. If you have that issue, just PM anyone on the teamspeak with at least 1 arc, and theyll gladly move ya where you wanna go. Sorry you seem to be having trouble finding games bud!

I agree. I don't see you on TS very often. In fact, you're in game right now, but not on TS.

If you want to play with us, you gotta let us know, man.

I've posted this over and over, open the ingame menu for chat rooms and add BBF. Everyone should do this when they login to the game, most people don't. Also, add all the officers to your friends list .

If i may chime in, I would recommend that people use the channels in TS as their meant to be used. I know I personally don't always do this, but I hate joining the LFT channel and being greeted by a team of 5 who have been playing a few games now. Just a suggestion that the channels could be better used to let players know whats actually going on without having to barge in and ask. I mean, the channels are there for a reason?

Now, that's not what I intended to say. Of course the best option to get into a game is joining TS, enter the most populated channel and ask for a game. But here start the problems already ... I join TS, there are 4 people in the "5v5"-room ... should I join that channel or not? I mean, I wouldn't want to interrupt them in the middle of a match, would I? But that ain't my point. I'm also not saying that you have to "hunt down" every new member. I simply put down the impressions I gathered so far and thought up a few things that can be easily set up and would make the transition of new members into the clan easier. I mean, if you take the division rooster for example ... the officers are doing activity checks any way (roll call), so it's just a matter of writing it down and you'll have means for new people to find out who's there in the LoL division and meet up with them (This would also cease the "add me"-posts/threads.

About the "make your presence known" part, as I said, I wouldn't expect anyone to hunt down new members. I'm not pouting around here about "Why don't you play games with me, while I sit in the dark corner and wait for anyone approaching me". I even got an example for this: It already happened that I was sitting several hours in the "Looking for team" channel on my own, while around me people formed matches in other channels (and not only with full teams). So, taking that situation ... Am I supposed to watch the TS-channels non-stop and jump 'round the channels as soon as there's an indication of a match?

I'm not saying that things are bad as they are, they aren't at all. All I'm saying that there's room for improvement.

Just take it from your daily life. Everyone who's been new to a working place, a new school, new town or whatever, knows that it isn't always easy being the "new kid".

The main reason you don't see me often on TS is most likely due to the time difference, I'm from Europe and asleep when most Americans are online during the week. And if I'm ingame and not in TS it can have several reasons, like having a voice call on other means than TS for example.

That's the first time I hear about a BBF chatroom ingame. :/

I'm not saying jump around non-stop...but by all means, even if there are 5 people in the "5v5" room, hop in, ask if theyre all in a game together. We're full of friendly people who are always looking for a game. If someones free theyll likely join ya. Never think you're "bugging" anyone. Hell, when Im bored and everyones in a game, I stay in the TS room with em and spectate. From there I call out Dragon timers and whatnot. No one really minds as long as their game chat isnt clogged by a bunch of general conversation.

And Im guilty of not using the BBF chat room as well >_<;

I agree with Tansen, the chat room has most of us in it to add. Now to address some of your points, the officers do grab new people, I've been pulled serveral times, by Coop/Waccky to meet the new guys, and I'll grab a game with them later the same night if possible. If recruits want to schedule games, that's for them. The only "schedule" we run on is the Training schedule's for the ranked teams otherwise we run drop in drop out games 24/7 to avoid people missing "scheduled" events due to life. 90% of the time you won't find a single member on TS in a room alone unless A. every team is a 5v5 full currently, or they are afk to get food/smoke etc etc. As well as I'd say a solid 90% of us will also just run straight down their friendslist and invite EVERY clan member they have before they queue for a game. But to pair 4 level 30s and a level 8 against another group of 30s, would leave (well at least if it was me back at level 8) shocked, and horrified. I think co-ordinating the lower leveled players in BBF together might be a good idea though. As for you being on TS, I haven't seen much of you either, try to jump on TS anytime you're playing League if you want to get invited. You could say I run on European time because barring I don't have work I sleep nearly all day, and only play from 7PM - 10 AM the next morning lots of days.

Hey Sopheus, send me a pm so we can chat a bit. Most of your clan mates are more than willing to play at most any time, though there are things that could be done better as far as making new recruits feel welcome and involved...which we are and will continue to work on. We'll chat soon, and good luck until then.
