Pick Countering is
EXTREMELY important for anyone wanting to get better at League of Legends.
It is a skill ALL professional players know, and use every single game.
What is Countering?
Countering is when you pick a champion in order to expose the other champions weaknesses, and ultimately win the lane.
Example..
Katarina is a champion, that to use her full kit or even most of her damage, has to be directly on top of you. Right there you can identify a weakness of hers. The fact that
she has to be in close range to do well against you. Also, she her ult (main source of damage) is a channel. This means
her ult can be disrupted by most forms of cc, like stuns, silences and suppression.
We now have found two weaknesses of Katarina..
- She must be in close range to maximize her damage
- Her main source of damage can be canceled
Now what champion can capitalize off of those weaknesses?
Orianna?
?
NO
You would think that Orianna could push Katarina, a close range damage dealer, out of lane but she cannot. While Orianna's slow ball moves either to farm, or damage Katarina, Katarina could jump onto Orianna, and before her ball can even come back to act as a shield, Katarina has already used most of her kit to inflict heavy harass.
Lux?
?
NO
Again, same concept as Orianna. Lux is a very ranged AP mid, rarely getting into close range in most of the time spent in lane. The moment Lux throws a bind or ball of light, Katarina can simply jump over it onto Lux and deal some very heavy damage.
Annie?
?
YES
Annie is Katarina's perfect counter. Annie specializes in close range burst and an extremely dynamic and powerful stun. If Katarina were to jump too close and try to inflict damage on Annie, she can ult Katarina with her ultimate, W, ignite then finish her off with a Q. With AP runes, this is easily 600+ damage in 1.5 seconds.
