As the title states I am thinking of trying out LoL and was wondering if anyone would be willing to help me figure the game out.

Well, the in-game tutorial explains quite a bit of the basics. "STAY BEHIND YOUR MINIONS!"

However, when it comes to the competitive nature of the game, I'm sure you can ask any of us in the TS channel for assistance. The best experience you can get to start out though is to get in some Co-op vs. AI games and fight against the brain-dead computers. Once you get a higher summoner level and/or more confident in your skills, you can move on to actual PvP. Remember though, the game really doesn't begin until you're Lv30. xD

And don't buy runes until lvl 20 and only buy lvl 3 runes.
Oh, and another important tip: don't buy runes until lvl 20. It is a complete waste of IP.

Tier 1's are okay, DO NOT buy tier 2, you can trade in the tier ones with the rune combiner later and "hopefully" get something good. Tier ones are really efficient but the tier 2 ones are right out god awful. As for the actual gameplay? you will suck...but that's true for everyone! everyone sucks when they start compared to someone who has played more than 200 wins let alone like 500+.

The key is trying to find out what you did wrong and to accept criticism when needed. For your low levels just mute everyone is my best advice as soon as they start raging.
